Advanced E-Mail Tips

Multiple E-mail Addresses
If you have more than one e-mail address you may specify any one for your WebTycho e-mail and the same one will be used in all of your WebTycho classes. If you obtain a new e-mail address be sure to record the update in Account Preferences.  

Multiple Profiles or Identities on One Computer
You may create separate mailboxes for different people who access the same e-mail provider at one computer. You may create multiple mailboxes for a single user who maintains several separate addresses.

If you are not using IMAP incoming mail servers or if you would like to keep your WebTycho e-mail messages separate from your work or personal e-mail accounts, then you may set up different Profiles or Identities.  Also, family members may wish to use the same computer and the same browser to access the internet, yet they wish to maintain separate settings, preferences, bookmarks, and e-mail addresses.

Outlook Express Identity Settings

  1. If Internet Explorer is running, choose Exit (or Quit) from the File menu
  2. Open Outlook Express
  3. Choose the File Menu > Identities > Add > New Identity
  4. Follow the instructions providing the necessary information

 

Filtering E-mail
Most e-mail programs offer you the option of automatically sorting your incoming e-mail into separate folders according to criteria that you set. These criteria are based on the text in incoming message address lines. For example, you may ask the students in your classes to be sure to include the class ID number in the subject lines of their messages to you, and you then may set your filters to put your incoming e-mail in different folders according to the class ID numbers.

  1. Filter with Outlook Express
    1. Open Outlook Express
    2. Click Tools
    3. Click Message Rules
    4. Select Mail
    5. Enter the requested Information
    6. Click OK
