 SETTING UP

Browsers and Settings

A browser is software that enables computer users to access the World Wide Web.

As a rule, it is a very good idea to update your browser when new releases become available from the browser company website.

Can I Use My Current Browser?
The Check Your Browser button on the WebTycho login page automatically determines and reports whether your browser is WebTycho compatible.  If not, visit the browser company's Web site to download the newest version.

Download a Browser
The majority of our class members use Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer, both available at no cost from the manufacturers.

Install JavaScript 1.5 (Required)
JavaScript 1.5 is used for viewing course materials, announcements, and conference notes that have been written with the Text Formatting Editor (TFE). Even if you choose to not compose with the TFE yourself, you must be able to see what others who do use the TFE have posted.  JavaScript is different than JVM.

If your browser does not have JavaScript 1.5 installed, upon log in you will receive an invitation to download and install it.  You will be unable to access WebTycho until you do.  If you do not receive the invitation then your browser is already compliant.

Browser Maintenance: Clear Cache
If you are experiencing trouble, this is one of the first steps to take in troubleshooting.

WebTycho Support does not support third party software. This includes virus-protection, e-mail services, ISPs, browsers, word processing and any other software not developed by WebTycho. To use the third-party software, you must agree to the terms and conditions imposed by the third party provider and the agreement to use such software will be solely between you and the third party provider. However, because browsers required for use with WebTycho, we provide limited assistance in configuring browsers specifically for that purpose.
